Everyone played a vital role, and while tasks were flexible, each person had a designated area of responsibility, such as managing the storefront, sound, or Braai area.

Unlike traditional 'Buy and Braai' establishments, where customers were required to purchase meat and Braai it themselves, we offered a convenient experience. Our customers could simply buy their preferred cut of meat, relax and enjoy a drink, good music, and great company, while we took care of the preparation and packaging. This innovative approach allowed our customers to indulge in delicious, freshly prepared meat without the hassle of cooking it themselves.

Additionally, Meat Khona aimed to attract new customers and showcase the talent of its DJs. However, managing the creative demands and diverse personalities of the DJs and event staff introduced new challenges. Despite the stresses, this period helped establish a high working standard and effectively promoted the Meat Khona brand.

Competitors sought to elevate their own businesses, while the venue's perceived success also attracted unwanted attention from criminal elements. Despite efforts to differentiate itself from the typical township Chisanyama, Meat Khona faced criticism for its prices, which were deemed higher than average. While this approach attracted some customers seeking a unique experience, it also led to backlash and retaliation from others. Ultimately, Meat Khona's presence helped set a new standard for entertainment establishments in the area, transforming it from a mere pit stop to a vibrant destination.

Who we served

Meat Khona's target demographic was the middle to upper-class individuals, a deliberate choice to defy the stereotype that townships only deserved dark, dinghy and foul smelling establishments. The venue aimed to provide a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere, catering to the needs of the aspirational middle class. To achieve this, Meat Khona carefully curated its music selection, creating a lively yet conversational ambiance during the day, which would occasionally give way to more vibrant events. By offering a space where patrons could enjoy a drink and conversation without the need to shout, Meat Khona successfully filled a gap in the market, providing a refined and enjoyable experience for those who felt neglected by other establishments that prioritized profits over customer experience.
